Abstract

It has been shown the principal alleged advantage of the controlled hypotension is the reduction in operative blood loss, with subsequent savings in blood loss.
To assess savings in blood loss during surgical procedure, clinical observations on 34 hypertensive patients (140-220 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure) with deliberated hypotension (80-130 mm Hg) for an average period of 114 minutes was analyzed.
The result revealed that halothane concentrations 1.5-3.0 per cent were usually required to maintain blood pressure within the desired 80-130 mmHg level and it is suggested that it seemed- to be decrease of operative time and blood loss.
